Scientists claim, Newly discovered supernova can become a means of communication with aliens

Space News: In the latest study, scientists have suggested that a newly discovered supernova, which is 21 million light-years away from Earth, could become a means of communication with aliens. A team of astronomers from the University of Washington has set its sights on SN 2023ixf, which is located in the Pinwheel Galaxy. The supernova is the closest a stellar explosion has been seen by the human eye in a decade.

If the supernova is observed by extraterrestrials, it is likely to be used by these alien civilizations as an attractor to communicate with other planets.

SN 2023ixf was detected by the National Astronomical Observatory in Gozo. After which the researchers found out that it was a Type II supernova which is a star eight times the size of our Sun.

The team headed by James Davenport has used the ‘Ceti Ellipsoid’ to conduct this research of the egg-shaped space zone. In this research, Zone has a chance to include 100 nearby stars. The Allen Telescope Array (ATA) is being used by astronomers in North Carolina and the Robert C Byrd Green Bank Telescope in Virginia to study stars and understand whether habitable planets surround them.

“We intend to revisit the ellipsoid once a month for the next few months as new stars enter the sample,” said the study published in arXiv.
