Government opens new e-shop for small shopkeepers, the challenge of Flipkart-Amazon will increase!

To challenge the dominance of big companies like Flipkart and Amazon in the e-commerce segment, the government has opened a new type of e-shop ONDC. Right now it has been started on pilot basis. Know what is this ONDC..

Flipkart and Amazon are currently dominating the e-commerce market of the country. After receiving many complaints about these platforms discriminating against small shopkeepers, now the government has started a new type of e-commerce platform. The government will gradually implement this scheme started on a pilot basis across the country.

ONDC is like UPI

The new e-commerce platform that the government has created is an Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This is exactly like the UPI type protocol designed for digital payments. Right now it has been started in 5 cities on pilot basis.

In this regard, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, “After UPI, another game changer idea for democratization of the commerce sector is ONDC. This platform will give freedom to the customers to choose sellers and logistics providers. So get ready for a new world of choice, convenience and transparency.

ONDC started in these cities

Anil Agarwal, Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), working under the Ministry of Commerce, informed that the government has launched this e-commerce platform on a pilot basis in Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Shillong and Bhopal. is. About 150 retailers from these 5 cities are currently associated with ONDC. Right now we want to see how it’s working when you are actually making payment, order, order cancellation and delivery. We have a large number of retailers and traders. These are being integrated with the platform. At the same time, many logistics partners are also being linked to this.

ONDC will work like this

The idea of making the government its own e-commerce platform came during the Corona epidemic. Work on this started in December 2021. During that time, the government was facing difficulty in delivering essential commodities to many people, due to which the government came up with the idea of creating such an open e-commerce platform. This will benefit crores of small shopkeepers in the country who have not yet become a part of the e-commerce ecosystem.

ONDC will actually be a kind of open registry. Small shopkeepers will be able to register themselves on it. This will bring standardization in the e-commerce segment. The advantage of this will be that a retailer will not have to register itself on different e-commerce platforms to sell goods in the online market. In such a situation, if a customer has to buy something, then he will be able to first check the registered retailer on this open registry in his area. Not only this, another advantage to the customer will be that he will be able to order his order separately, he will be able to choose the option of delivery himself.
