Good news with bad: Maruti discontinuing Alto 800, but will relaunch this popular car

Alto has played an important role in making Maruti Suzuki the number one car company in the country. Maruti entered the Indian auto market with the Alto 800. Alto is also the best selling car of the country. After this, Maruti Zen took the company’s success journey forward. Now Maruti has many most selling hatchbacks like S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Swift. However, the existence of small hatchbacks from Maruti, including the Alto, has come under threat due to the changed selfie rule. Now according to the new report, Maruti is discontinuing the Std and LXI variants of the Alto 800. The company is once again planning to launch Alto K10.

Maruti discontinued the Alto K10 in the year 2020. Then the company did not launch it with the BS6 engine. The major reason for its discontinuation was also the almost identical model of the Alto 800 and the Alto K10. At the same time, the 1000cc engine was given in the K10, due to which it was more expensive than the Alto 800. Because of this, most people used to go towards Alto 800 depending on the model and price. At the same time, people who had the budget for the K10 used to go towards the WagonR. In such a situation, the company closed the K10 forever. Later, by launching the mini SUV S-Presso, the company made a better alternative to the K10.

The company will benefit from Maruti K10

Talking about the figures for FY 2022, Maruti Suzuki has sold 2,11,762 units of Alto and S-Presso, while other entry-level hatchbacks like Renault have sold 26,535 units of Kwid. The annual market for the entry-level hatchback is around 2.5 lakh units. If Maruti Suzuki does the placement of the K10 right, it could capture the share of the Kwid. Currently, the Kwid gets 800cc with 1000cc engine option. It is believed that the company can launch this new hatchback closer to the festival season.

6 airbags and India NCAP test becoming a challenge

Keeping in mind the safety of the people, the Government of India is emphasizing on making the car more safe. In such a situation, Nitin Gadkari has made the rule of 6 airbags mandatory in the car. At the same time, crash tests of cars will also be done in India from next year. For this, India NCAP is being started. In such a situation, the challenge of installing 6 airbags in these small hatchbacks has increased in front of the car companies. Maruti Chairman RC Bhargava has said that the government’s policy is affecting its small cars. In such a situation, the company will not hesitate to close them. Because due to the rule of 6 airbags in the car, Maruti’s cheap hatchback will go outside the budget of the common people. For this reason, the company is now planning to launch the Alto K10 with the new generation Alto 800.

6 airbags expensive deal in a car of 5 lakhs

Bhargava had said that installing 6 airbags will increase the entry-level car by up to Rs 60,000, which is a huge margin for any entry level car. Because of this, the company may discontinue some variants of some models. Many structural changes will have to be done in the model which will be given four airbags. Side airbags There will be curtain airbags above the B-pillar at the rear of the front seat. Cars that currently only come with 2 airbags will have to undergo such structural changes. For this, additional investment will also have to be made. Whereas 6 airbags are understandable in premium cars. Cars whose cost is less than 5 lakhs, their cost will increase. At present, 30 thousand rupees are being spent on adding only 2 airbags in an entry level car.
